Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Under the direction of the Compliance Manager, supervises and provides case management of sentenced DWI and misdemeanor offenders; enforces court ordered sentencing stipulations and monitors offender compliance; administers alcohol screenings; regular attendance at court hearings; will be required to provide court testimony.
  • Duties include field work, home visits and surveillance; periodic or random testing of offenders for alcohol and drug compliance' monitoring of ignition interlock requirements and electronic monitoring.
  • Responsible for entry into the state-mandated offender tracking and screening program; prepares and submits monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports and evaluations to the Compliance Manager.
  • Will attend monthly meetings as required by Compliance Manager or Director.
  • Depending upon assignment, will be required to perform a variety of administrative/clerical and general office duties, which may include but are not limited to: opening and closing the office; answering telephones; handling incoming and outgoing mail and electronic communications; typing, copying and filing documents; typing correspondence.
  • Will be cross-trained in other components of the department to assist in progression of growth in other areas, will require attendance at prevention and/or community events.
  • The functions of the Court Compliance Officer are not limited to those set forth above. The employee will perform such functions, duties or assignments as given by the Compliance Manager or Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Experience of two (2) years in judiciary field, criminal justice, counseling, or human service.
  • Relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • Experience in the criminal justice field and case management strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • One to three years' experience in client supervision and/or case management required.
  • One to three years' experience reading and interpreting court documents.
  • One to three years' experience working independently in a stressful environment wherein confidentiality and composure were required.

Certifications, Skills and Licenses:

  • Valid New Mexico driver's license.
  • Good communication and public relations skills required. Skill in public relations with individuals and groups on a wide variety of topics in a wide variety of settings. Strong interpersonal communication skills, including writing and public speaking ability commensurate with senior and executive management team level and the ability to work professionally with persons at all levels, including chief justices, judges, and court personnel, criminal justice professionals and to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques and practices.
  • Proficiency using the full suite of Microsoft Office technologies, Excel software, Zoom and other virtual platform conferencing technologies; experienced and comfortable with using presentation, teaching, and delivery technologies; comfortable and familiar with design and development technology.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn computer-assisted DWI screening and tracking programs.
  • New Mexico Court Officer Basic Training (COBT) Certification in compliance monitoring will be required within one year of hire.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful.

  • Ability to push/pull with arms with a force of 5 lbs. periodically.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. to waist level frequently and to eye level or overhead occasionally.
  • Ability to grasp and manipulate objects as needed to perform essential duties such as writing; depressing buttons, switches and instrument keyboard components; and similar duties.

  • Must be able to understand and follow oral directions and instructions.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow written directions and instructions.
  • Must be able to give oral and written directions and instructions.
  • Must be able to read and understand such items as contracts, grants, project guidelines, court orders and similar documents.
  • Must be able to write such items as letters, reports, offender evaluations and similar documents using proper format and grammar.
  • Must be able to plan and direct own work activities as well as other staff in an efficient manner.
  • Must be able to effectively safeguard confidential information.
  • Must be able to use tact and courtesy in working with a wide range of individuals, including the public, often under tense circumstances.
  • Must demonstrate sufficient and adequate mental and emotional stability in order to meet the rigors of a position requiring direct contact with offenders.

Other:

  • Ability to perform essential duties and adapt to working conditions.
  • No history of felony or misdemeanor criminal convictions involving moral turpitude, violence, distribution of controlled substances, or dishonesty.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May be required to use stairs, elevator or escalator during performance of essential duties.
  • Work is primarily conducted during daylight hours; however, employee is subject to occasional call out.
  • May work alone with or without direction, or with one or more people in a select group. May on occasion work with a large group.
