Overview San Francisco Waldorf School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Language Arts Specialist Teacher to join our team, supporting students in grades 2 through 8. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for literacy, a strong understanding of language development, and a proven ability to teach both reading and writing. This teacher will provide targeted reading instruction to students in grades 2–5 and lead writing instruction—including the mechanics of writing, grammar, and composition—for students in grades 5–8. This role is ideal for an educator who is Orton-Gillingham trained and has experience working with students who have learning differences, including dyslexia, ADHD, ADD, and sensory processing challenges. This individual will work with small groups of students teaching reading three times a week in grades two and three, once a week in grades four and five and focusing in grades five through eight once a week to improve writing skills and develop grammar skills. The position will be 12-15 hours per week. Qualifications Experience working with middle-school students in an academic environment Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.), in Education, Child Development, English, or Special Education Flexibility with schedule and willingness to adapt to new circumstances Patience, compassion and empathy in dealing with students Excellent record-keeping, organizational and time management skills Benefits & Compensation Pay Rate: $55 per hour This is a part-time, hourly position. This position carries no benefits other than those available through the San Francisco City Ordinances. This position does not continue through the Summer Break. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.
