A new non-profit seeking an intern who has a passion for wildlife, outdoor work, and a commitment to keeping Utah's mountains clean and thriving. After a 3 month probationary period you may be given the opportunity to be hired for a permanent full-time career in habitat restoration and preservation.

We are dedicated to restoring and preserving the lands within the drainages created by the Uintas Mountains; the Bear, Provo and Weber rivers mainly but also the Green River. This includes full habitat restoration for homeowners, corporations and public land agencies. We are partnered with a native plants nursery to source our plants for restoration. And we have a huge focus on invasive weed control, which is often caused by development, a root cause of climate change. We aim to to mitigate this as much as possible. Herbicide is being used at record rates to manage invasive species while also damaging our local pollinators, wildlife and communities. We will be campaigning for natural remedies and also performing the work ourselves.

No experience necessary all training will be done on-site with the Director. If you're interested in native plants, biodiversity, forestry, and restoration work this could be the perfect career.

Part-time or Full-time available

You will need reliable transportation for the 4 training period and a vehicle for the 8 weeks after. Gas will be reimbursed after 4 weeks of training. After the total 3 month probationary period you will receive a company vehicle.

You will work closely with the Owner/Operator to understand their vision for a sustainable and healthy Wasatch Back region.

20-40 hours including 2 or 4 hours of paid lunches.

Make your own schedule as long as hours are met.

There is no limit on time-off but consecutive weeks of unmet hours is reason for termination.

Duties

• Remove invasive species, mainly plants
• Cataloging locations for future invasive removal as well areas likely to be infested for regular checkups.
• Ensure all work is completed to the highest standards of quality and safety.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols at all times. Chainsaws, brush cutters etc much be stored safely and properly.
• Table at farmers markets to educate on the dangers of using herbicide and why hand management methods are superior.
• Table at farmers markets to gather donations and funding for our work.
• Field time; cataloging insects, plants, animals, etc.
• Long and remote days; driving and hiking in the back country to tag locations for removal and check ins.
• After the probationary period you may be given projects to manage yourself for full restoration.

Skills

• Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools for invasive weed management.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to mitigating impact while in the field.
• Excellent communication skills; interacting with clients and team members.
• Hiking, Maps, GPS, general outdoor safety and knowledge for solo working.
• Background in gis, website building, and customer service is preferred but not required.
