Position Description:

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation is seeking an Orthopedic Hand surgeon who will have teaching, research, and clinical service responsibilities in the Hand and Wrist Division of the department. Appointment will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor based on background and qualifications and may be either on the Clinical or Tenure Track, depending upon research interests and background. The University of Iowa is a level 1 trauma center and cares for severely injured patients from around the state. This is an outstanding opportunity to join our academic department and to be a part of our growing hand and wrist service.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.

Education Requirement:

  • The candidate must hold an MD, DO or equivalent degree.
  • The candidate must be a graduate of an ACGME accredited orthopedic residency program or its equivalent.
  • The candidate must have completed or currently be in or planning to be in a fellowship in hand/upper limb surgery and skills in microvascular surgery are necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical licensure and/or eligibility in the state of Iowa.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to ongoing performance improvement.

Certifications:

  • The candidate must be a board-certified or board-eligible orthopedic surgeon.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Interest in research evidenced by publications, grants, or other scholarly work.
  • Experience in education including teaching of residents and/or medical or other students.
  • Evidence of leadership in local, regional, or national organizations including committee work, honors and awards or other service activities.
