Job Description

Summary: The Insights Manager is responsible for turning information/data into actionable insights, solutions and dashboards that provides the base of knowledge for our marketing/sales plans and strategies. They will work with quantitative and qualitative data, connect multiple pieces of information to form an insight, and select the right information to answer business questions. They will work with various internal (finance/marketing capabilities/IT) and 3rd Party resources (research agencies, information databases etc.) to make sure WSC leadership has trends, market analysis, and dealer/builder/architect/homeowner insights that are both accurate and current.Furthermore, this role will help define what “Insights” look like at WSC including setting a 5-year vision for how information is leveraged by our brands.

Duties include (not limited to):

Internal & External Data Mining

  1. Develop and deliver presentation on category, brand, region, and CRM performance including trends, share, key drivers to marketing, sales, and executive leadership
  2. Coordinate with various internal teams and external teams to design, execute, and present custom research projects.
  3. Design and maintain “self-serve” dashboards on key business drivers that business partners have access, understanding and awareness of. Collaboration with business partners to determine the content and priority of dashboards.
  4. Identify and manage key 3rd party information that gives us access to information we don’t have in house: category performance, category trends, customer trends/behaviors, pricing.
  5. Work closely with the Brand Partner Manager to develop how the insights from a contractor program will be mind and insights communicated to business partners.

Business Assessment:

  1. Present monthly business reviews (MBR) by owned brands and key partners in collaboration with brand managers that outlines brand performance metrics vs target, drivers of “why” and key “so what’s”.
  2. Annual Business Planning: Provide the critical information on 1) historical performance, key upward and downward drivers of key brands 2) outside market trends and 3) represent this information in the target and driver setting discussions.
  3. Measurement: Helps determine benchmarks and KPIs to measure and report on success of the annual plans
  4. Annual forecasting of key brand and product performance
  5. Coordinate monthly demand forecasting

Process Creation & Management

  1. Work with cross functionals to ensure CRM, Financial, and Product information is complete and accurate
  2. Provide training to marketing team on what the data means and how to access it
  3. Identify opportunities to collect data in ways that are more accessible (i.e. competitive pricing)
  4. Identify sources of information missing and where to acquire them (i.e. category trends/market place share)

Portfolio Assessments: Working with BM/Portfolio Manager to analyze

  1. Annual SKU discontinuation recommendation based on profitability, sales, and growth
  2. Pricing recommendations and analysis
  3. Innovation valuation (financial/customer* market research)
  4. ROI on marketing spends

An Insight Manager will possess and/or demonstrate:

  • 3+ YRS Experience in Dashboard creation.Power BI (PBI) preferred.
  • Ability to build Data Pipelines with 2-3 disparate data sources.
  • Strong story telling skills are required for translating information from multiple sources to determine not just the “what” and the “why” but deliver it in a way that is understandable
  • Curiosity to get to the root of a problem/solution and begin investigation of questions that haven’t been yet asked.
  • Translate ambiguous questions to clear investigative objectives with hypothesis
  • Deep understanding of analytic methods including expert knowledge of Excel, PBI. Understanding of forecasting, Python/R, and SQL is preferred but not required.
  • P&L/Sales/Customer/End User acumen
  • High level understanding of how data is managed within various technology platforms (CRM (Dynamics) /PBI/ERP/Data Lakes)
  • Continuous learning of new information sources, data interpretation techniques, etc.
