Joliet Metallurgical Laboratories, Inc. (JML) is the largest facility of its kind in the United States, specializing in Creep and Stress Rupture Testing for critical industries like aerospace, power generation, and automotive. Since 1956, we have been a leader in providing the highest quality metallurgical testing services.

We are seeking a Precision Machinist to join our team in Joliet, IL. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the specimens used in our high-stakes materials testing.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Precision Machinist is responsible for the exact preparation of metal test specimens used in our laboratory. This is a high-precision, hands-on role requiring attention to detail and a commitment to quality standards.

Specimen Preparation & Machining:

• Operate and Program a variety of cutting equipment, including manual and CNC lathes, mills, and grinders to prepare metal test specimens to precise dimensional tolerances.
• Set up, adjust, and troubleshoot machining tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
• Conduct routine technical tasks related to the machining and preparation process as directed by supervision.

Quality & Compliance:

• Gather and meticulously record critical dimensions and specifications of all machined specimens for quality control documentation.
• Ensure all machining and laboratory activities are performed in a safe and productive working environment, consistent with company and industry safety standards.

Maintenance & Support:

• Perform preventative maintenance and routine upkeep on all shop and laboratory equipment.
• Maintain accurate inventory of laboratory supplies and tooling.
• Be available to perform additional tasks as needed to maximize operational efficiency and support overall lab workflow.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum Experience: 1 year of professional machining experience.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve and maintain high-tolerance dimensional accuracy.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
• Must be able to stand, walk, and handle materials for extended periods.

Since its' inception, JML has been an industry leader in the field of metallurgical testing becoming the largest facility of our kind in the United States. Our lab offers over 300 test stands which can be utilized for stress rupture, creep, and creep rupture testing. In addition, we offer tensile testing, hardness testing and a NADCAP approved machine shop.
