10-20 hours per week (depending on level of programming), August 2024-December 2027
The Object-based Learning area of the Department of Learning and Interpretation integrates art into pre-K-12, undergraduate, graduate, and professional school curricula to promote critical thinking. The Neighborhood Arts Collaborative Program Assistant plays a key role in coordinating and supporting operations for a grant-funded multi-year community arts initiative that engages residents of all ages, from pre-K learners to seniors.
Responsibilities: - Collaborates closely with the Senior Specialist for University and Professional Programs, the Senior Specialist for Docent Programs, and the Object-based Learning Specialist on administrative and other tasks for Neighborhood Arts Collaborative (NAC) programming
- Provides support for NAC programs, including:
- Scheduling all NAC-related programs and meetings; maintains a master scheduling calendar.
- Preparing materials for NAC programs.
- Tracking program budgets.
- Compiling program participant statistics.
- Coordinating with internal museum departments such as Engineering and Facilities, Security, and Guest Services.
- Maintains mailing lists and assists in creating and coordinating the communication with partners.
- Maintains attendance statistics for Neighborhood Arts Collaborative area, and makes sure they are recorded daily and creates reports as needed.
- Packs supply bins and prepares materials for all programs. Maintains inventory and cares for art-making materials and tools.
- Works closely to contract with bus companies for transportation.
- Provides onsite support during NAC programming for hospitality, set-up and breakdown.
- Assists with other functions and activities of the NAC, as needed.
- Maintains records of activities and budget for grant.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment, take initiative, and problem solve.
- Positive and patient demeanor with the ability to remain calm when working with large groups
- Must be able to handle many activities and projects simultaneously
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the Neighborhood Arts Collaborative programs, which will require evening and weekend hours.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Desire to support greater Houston learning community and contribute to a team environment.
Education and Experience: - Bachelor's degree in related field (Humanities; Art History, Museum Studies, Art Education or Administration) preferred OR an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable and demonstrable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
