Welder

We are seeking a skilled welder to join our team and contribute to our long-term and quick turnaround projects. You will utilize various welding techniques, including cutting torch and manual cutting, to modify, remove, and prepare materials for welding. Your role will involve safely operating welding torches to complete barge repairs and rigging various materials in preparation for welding.

Responsibilities:

• Perform welding tasks in horizontal, flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Ensure root pass is even and consistent, avoiding porosity, slag inclusion, undercut, or lack of penetration.
• Utilize FCAW and SMAW welding processes and arc gouging.
• Assist with mechanical and labor tasks on the worksite as required.

Essential Skills:

• Proficiency in flux core and wire welding techniques.
• Ability to weld watertight welds on the outside of the boathole and bulkhead partitions.
• Experience with 6011 stick welding, 7018 stick welding, and Mig wire welding.
• Knowledge of open root, carbon & stainless, and flux core welding.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Previous shipyard welding experience is required.
• Comfortable using welding equipment such as grinders and tape measures.
• Understanding of fitting, Mig, Tig, and shipbuilding processes.

Work Environment:

Work in one of the repair divisions, performing long-term and quick turnaround projects. Expect a standard 40-hour workweek with potential overtime during peak season. Day shifts are from 6 am to 2:30 pm, while night shifts run from 2:30 pm to 10 am. Contractors must provide their own PPE, including a hard hat, steel toe safety boots, safety glasses, gloves, and welding hood. Be prepared to work in various weather conditions and lift heavy objects in confined spaces.

This is a contract position based out of Paducah, KY.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
