Position: Psychiatrist
As a Psychiatrist, you will play a vital role in providing compassionate medical treatment and personalized care to patients seeking help for various conditions in our clinic. Working closely with the dedicated members of our core PACT (Primary Care Team), including your colleagues in nursing and medical assistance, you will also collaborate with family members, caregivers, and community-based services to develop comprehensive patient care plans.
Core Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough interviews with patients to assess their social and emotional well-being, identifying any organic, congenital, or acquired disorders and determining the nature and extent of these conditions.
Order and perform diagnostic tests, interpret results, and provide follow-up care based on findings.
Counsel patients about prescription medications and educate them on their treatment plans to ensure understanding and adherence.
Develop and implement effective patient management plans, ensuring continuity of care through the Primary Care Management Module (PCMM).
Evaluate patient records from external medical providers and collaborate with these patients while adhering to the VA's guidelines for co-managed care.
Facilitate individual, group, family, and marriage counseling or therapy sessions to promote mental health and well-being.
Guide patients through group experiences to enhance their social skills and improve family relationships and community engagement.
Address important topics such as advance directives and organ donation in accordance with established standards.
Accurately input patient information into the VISTA/CPRS systems and complete all clinical reminders during patient visits.
Assist in coordinating care with non-VA providers and facilities, serving as a case manager when needed.
Provide patient and family health education focused on self-management, prevention, wellness, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Maintain the confidentiality of patient information, ensuring compliance with all training requirements.
Adhere to compliance standards set by the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission (JC), and other oversight bodies.
Stay committed to achieving excellent clinical outcomes in line with VA guidelines.
Deliver exceptional customer service to veterans and their families, both in-person and over the phone, as well as to colleagues and clinic visitors.
Participate in outreach events to support clinic enrollment initiatives.
Support patient enrollment and retention efforts for appointments, follow-ups, and nurse visits.
Embrace and advocate for new initiatives, whether clinical or operational.
Qualifications:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
Board certified in Psychiatry.
Must hold a valid, unrestricted medical license in the state of employment or in any U.S. state or territory, in accordance with VA contractual requirements.
A minimum of 1-3 years of clinical practice experience with adult patients (specific requirements may vary based on individual VA contracts).
Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
Credentialed and in good standing with the Veterans Health Administration (VA).
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) as specified by the relevant VAMC contract.
Proficient in written and spoken English.
Strong computer skills, including experience with electronic medical records (EMR).
An energetic and optimistic demeanor.
