POSITION SUMMARY: The Regional Chief Engineer position supports hotel properties assigned within the region. The RCE role manages the engineering/maintenance operations to ensure safety and comfort of hotel guests and team members. Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to; maintaining heating/air conditioning systems; identifying repair and/or replacement needs; providing necessary information on the proper uses of equipment; and assisting with other skilled trades as required. Follow brand standards and national and/or local regulatory requirements.
Other Duties & Responsibilities include but not limited to: - Must be able to communicate information and directions clearly via verbal, text, and email.
- Effectively lead, direct, and/or work with property managers and Engineering team.
- Ensure Maintenance Quality Assurance Programs for each brands' criteria are met.
- Educate and lead all department personnel on emergency procedures, key control, and life safety precautions.
- Prioritize work assignments.
- Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by fellow team members and guests.
- Must be able to follow proper procedures when ordering and receiving parts/material.
- Order parts/materials in a timely and efficient manner while minimizing waste. Coordinate with VPFE and property manages on expenditures that are needed and get approval before ordering.
- Maintain standards of personal appearance, grooming, wearing the proper uniforms and nametag.
- Must be proficient in the operation of maintenance software as assigned/implemented.
- Access information from energy management system, utilize commands to obtain information and reset equipment for proper operation.
- Program and review all HVAC computerized controls.
- Always comply with standards and regulations to encourage a safe working environment.
- Provide field support, conduct training, and maintain records of training.
- Review all assigned preventive maintenance work orders and schedule work orders.
- Perform General Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, project work and duties as assigned by the VPFE and property managers while complying with safety, quality, and customer service standards. This is including, but not limited to laundry equipment, heating, and air condition units, ice machines, fire extinguishers, fire/smoke alarms, lawn sprinklers, fire equipment and plumbing.
- Proper follow-up of rescheduled work orders due to material, time or manpower.
- Maintain constant working knowledge of Engineering procedures, operations and response requirements.
- Provide the highest quality of service and attitude toward guests and team members.
- Must be able to answer questions and inquiries on specific jobs taking place in the Engineering Department whether from a Senior Team Leader or Department Supervisor.
- Must be able to resolve problems in a quick and efficient manner.
- Daily property walk log to be completed at each property visited that day.
- Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and financial plans.
- Monitor budget and help control expenses.
- Lead or assist hotel renovations and other projects, negotiate contracts and ensure timely completion of projects within budget.
- Installs heating/air conditioning/refrigeration equipment and systems for the purpose of providing comfort inside facilities.
- Inspects systems and their components (e.g. air conditioning, heating and refrigeration units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
- Prepares documentation (e.g. records of refrigerants, paperwork, logs, time and materials, specifications, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support in compliance with regulations and/or conveying information.
- Assists other trades personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include operating equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance on HVAC equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and handling hazardous materials. Valid Driver's License is required.
Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes indoor air monitoring equipment; standards for design and construction; air conditioning and heating codes; and hazards and safety precautions.
Required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; working with constant interruptions; and displaying mechanical aptitude.
Education and Experience: - At least 5 years in hospitality or related building maintenance environment.
- Associates or Technical Training and a good working knowledge of industrial and mechanical system.
- Any combination equivalent, supplemented by approved apprenticeship program in HVAC and refrigeration repair, and three years of responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy and light equipment, including one year of journey-level experience.
- EPA Refrigerant Certification.
- HVAC & Refrigeration Technician Certification.
