Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and security-minded Senior Staff Engineer – Backend & Cloud, Tech Lead to join our team in a hybrid capacity based in Seattle, WA. This role blends deep technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, requiring a strong foundation in backend development, cloud-native architecture, and infrastructure automation. The ideal candidate will lead engineering efforts while coordinating effectively with offshore teams to ensure delivery of scalable, secure, and maintainable systems.

Responsibilities

• Participate in design, architecture and implementation of software systems solving complex problems. Includes defining, scoping and estimating stories and work artifacts.
• Ensure delivery of high quality, scalable, maintainable and well tested code
• Document designs. Provide on-call support for systems the team owns.
• Serve as the face of the offshore development team and stakeholders
• Act as the primary point of contact for Engineering Managers (EMs) and other onsite stakeholders
• Ensure effective communication and coordination between onsite and offshore teams
• Work with tech leads to align priorities, architecture decisions, and coding standards
• Break down epics and features into smaller technical stories for the offshore team
• Coordinate with other tech leads, ensuring that PR approvals follow defined processes
• Ensure offshore team participation in daily stand-ups and facilitate transparent status reporting
• Oversee delivery ownership for offshore contributions, ensuring timely and quality outcomes
• Manage knowledge transfer and attrition handling within the offshore team
• Handle issue escalation and proactively resolve blockers impacting the offshore team
• Provide progress updates and ensure accountability for the offshore team’s commitments

Qualifications

• 10+ years professional hands on experience delivering quality software
• Excellent proficiency in Java and Spring boot framework
• Experience with messaging technologies and streaming platforms (Kafka)
• Experience with RESTful architecture and micro services
• Proficiency with Cloud technologies (AWS, Kubernetes) GCP is a plus
• Must know modern infrastructure tools and pipelines (GitLab, CI/CD, Terraform)
• Test automation experience at all levels (Unit, Integration, Regression and Performance/Load)
• Familiar with logging and metrics tools (New Relic, Splunk)
• Should be able to articulate and architect a well-designed system
• Familiarity with relation databases is a plus
• Retail experience is a plus
• Understanding of modern warehouse management systems is a bonus
• Experience with messaging technologies and streaming platforms (Kafka)
• Experience with RESTful APIs, micro services and event driven architecture
• Proficiency with Cloud technologies (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker) GCP is a plus
• Must know modern infrastructure tools and pipelines (Github, GitLab, CI/CD, Terraform)
• Familiar with logging and telemetry tools (New Relic, Splunk, Dynatrace)
• Familiarity with relation databases
