About the Role:

The Veterinary Assistant at Veterinary Emergency & Surgery Hospital (VESH) plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering high-quality emergency and surgical care to animal patients. This position involves assisting with patient handling, preparing animals for procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized clinical environment to ensure efficient hospital operations. The Vet Assistant will be responsible for monitoring patient status, providing comfort and care, and facilitating communication between the medical team and pet owners. This role demands a compassionate and detail-oriented individual who can work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress emergency setting. Ultimately, the Vet Assistant contributes significantly to the overall well-being and recovery of animals treated at VESH by ensuring smooth clinical workflows and attentive patient care.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience or formal training as a veterinary assistant or in animal care.
• Basic knowledge of animal anatomy, behavior, and medical terminology.
• Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification as a Veterinary Assistant (e.g., Approved Veterinary Assistant - AVA).
• Experience working in an emergency or surgical veterinary setting.
• Familiarity with medical equipment and hospital management software.
• CPR and first aid certification for animals.
• Demonstrated ability to manage stressful situations calmly and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during emergency and surgical procedures by preparing animals and equipment.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and humanely during examinations and treatments.
• Monitor vital signs and patient status, reporting any changes promptly to the medical team.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of treatment areas, surgical suites, and hospital equipment.
• Support hospital operations by managing inventory, restocking supplies, and assisting with administrative tasks as needed.
• Provide compassionate care and comfort to animals recovering from surgery or illness.
• Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing updates and instructions as directed by veterinary staff.
