Job Responsibilities

With a strategic goal to reach 20,000 annual volunteers in all ASP programs, the Volunteer Recruiter - ASP Ministry Connector will help connect to new audiences and increase brand awareness of ASP. Their primary role will be to educate new potential volunteers about ASPs programs and how service can connect to their faith. Potential target groups include churches, schools, scouting troops, corporations, homeschool co-ops, civic organizations, youth organizations, neighborhood groups or families.

Specific duties include:

  • Research and connect with potential audiences and churches from target denominations and key states and invite them to take part in ASP.
  • Generate leads for potential future volunteer groups and maintain relationships in an effort to convert leads into registered volunteers. Respond promptly to incoming new leads from calls, form submissions, website chat, emails and social media.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with church youth pastors, mission directors, service-learning leaders, school faculty, campus ministry leaders and other potential groups interested in providing transformational service experiences for youth and young adults through ASP.
  • Make compelling presentations to groups, showing the impact of ASP and how it can enhance adult and youth development and awareness of poverty across Central Appalachia.
  • Travel to target cities where we have a strong ASP presence and conduct forums/trainings with existing groups and trip coordinators as an opportunity to retain and support the growth of current groups, and recapture lapsed groups.
  • Travel to target cities where the ASP brand is not widely known and meet with schools, scouting troop leaders, church leaders, and civic / youth organizations to spread awareness about ASP.
  • Source new places to have display tables, such as state, regional and national conferences, community fairs and denominational events to increase brand awareness and share about service opportunities with ASP.
  • Help establish a successful "proof of concept" by which recruitment leads are converted to paid volunteers, using best practices from nonprofit volunteer recruitment initiatives.
  • Assist Volunteer Recruitment Manager in recruiting Helping Hands, Ambassadors and Friends of ASP for special functions and other volunteer opportunities outside of ASP typical programing.
  • Assist in maintaining online volunteer postings and databases to capture potential leads.
  • Represent ASP at as many state, regional and national conferences as possible to increase brand awareness and share about our service opportunities.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all ASP programs, to effectively communicate and recruit on behalf of the organization.
  • Assist in creation of compelling marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, social media content, and newsletters, to effectively communicate the mission and impact of ASP.
  • Attend weekly volunteer team meetings and provide recruitment updates.

Candidate Description

  • Willingness to work in a Christian environment and talk openly about the connection between service and faith.
  • Previous experience as a volunteer or summer staff with ASP or a similar service-focused program is highly desirable, as is an ability to share your personal testimony regarding ASPs impact on your life.
  • Experience in sales, marketing, or volunteer recruitment, with a track record of achieving recruitment targets and building successful partnerships is preferred.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for problem-solving and innovation, able to develop and execute effective recruitment strategies.
  • Previous work experience in a customer service environment preferred.
  • Responsible work habits, including being highly motivated, dedicated, and a self-starter.
  • Excellent written and public speaking skills, with the ability to build rapport and cultivate relationships with volunteers, community partners, and stakeholders and move audiences to action.
  • Customer-focused approach with both current and potential volunteers.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Central Appalachia and/or experience working with low- income communities preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in fundraising software, CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
  • Bachelors Degree.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to recruitment events and conferences up to 50% of the time.
  • Valid drivers license and driving record that is acceptable to ASPs insurer.
  • Satisfactory results on a thorough background check.
