Job Description

*Position Purpose*

The *Director of Food and Nutrition Services* is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Dietary Department in collaboration with the facility’s contracted Registered Dietitian. This position ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations to provide high-quality nutritional services to residents and maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment.

*Essential Job Responsibilities*

* Plan, implement, and supervise all dietary department operations.
* Ensure all food is prepared, served, and stored in compliance with regulatory standards and facility policies.
* Develop, manage, and update facility menus in collaboration with the Registered Dietitian, incorporating resident preferences and seasonal variations.
* Maintain departmental budgets including food, labor, and supply costs.
* Order and inspect food, supplies, and equipment to ensure quality and inventory accuracy.
* Conduct dining room visits during meals to monitor resident satisfaction and food quality.
* Complete resident dietary assessments upon admission and quarterly, coordinating with the Registered Dietitian for care plan updates.
* Manage and update tray card systems to reflect current physician orders and resident preferences.
* Recruit, schedule, train, and supervise dietary staff; conduct performance evaluations and corrective actions as needed.
* Oversee training, competencies, and compliance with cleaning and sanitation procedures.
* Ensure temperature logs, cleaning schedules, and food safety checklists are properly completed and maintained.
* Participate in required meetings, including daily stand-ups, care conferences, and QAPI meetings.
* Report equipment or maintenance concerns promptly.
* Foster a positive, respectful, and service-oriented environment for residents and staff.

*Qualifications and Requirements*

* *Certification/Education:*
* Must hold one or more of the following:
* Certified Dietary Manager (CDM)
* Certified Food Service Manager
* Similar national certification in food service management/safety
* _OR_ Associate’s or higher degree in Food Service Management or Hospitality (with food service/restaurant management coursework).
* Prior experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care facility preferred.
* *Licensing:*
* Active Food Handler’s Permit/ServSafe Certification required.
* *Additional Requirements:*
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Must pass background check and provide required documentation per company policy.
* Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
* Proficient in written and verbal English communication.
* Computer proficiency and familiarity with standard kitchen equipment.
* Ability to prepare, serve, and oversee nutritious, appealing meals.
* Flexible to work weekends and holidays as needed.
* Physically able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 30 lbs, and tolerate kitchen temperature variations.
* Ability to work with geriatric and cognitively impaired residents compassionately and respectfully.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and motivate a team.
