This hiring is for two casual positions as laboratory assistants for nanotechnology



Duties and Responsibilities


    • Participating in the development of polymer and ceramic composites and nanocomposites including design, analysis, fabrication, and testing.

    • Preparing samples and performing mechanical testing per prescribed test methods such as ASTM.

    • Participating in custom design and operation of Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) furnaces, Vacuum and High Temperature Furnaces, Hot Press Operation, and Autoclave.

    • Manufacturing and post-processing of various forms of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and their inclusions in polymers and ceramic composites to develop high-performance multifunctional nanocomposites.

    • Evaluating the performance of preceramic polymers and their pyrolysis temperatures for the ceramic composite/nanocomposite systems.

    • Performing machining, measuring, testing, and data acquisition & recording of the developed composites and nanocomposites according to ASTM standards.

    • Assisting in manufacturing and test equipment calibrations.

    • Recording, evaluating, and reporting test results on written forms and in electronic spreadsheets.

    • Developing technical reports and presentations as well as patent documents and research papers.

    • Maintain test sample preparation area.

  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering with hands-on skills.

  • Familiarity with metal, polymer, and ceramic composites manufacturing and testing techniques.

  • Proficiency with computer aided design and analysis software such as Solid Works and ANSYS.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Familiarity with programming.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and interpret specifications, review test plans, procedures, equipment instructions, data analysis and follow detailed verbal and written instructions.

  • Familiarity with Optical Microscopic Characterizations such as SEM, TEM, AFM, etc.

  • Familiarity with the various manufacturing ovens and furnaces.

  • Familiarity with Mechanical Testing Machines (such as Instron)

  • Familiarity with Nanomaterials and Nanocomposites.
