Position Description

Position Summary

New River Electrical is looking for a qualified Tax Accountant with a desire to work in the construction industry.

The Tax Accountant supports the accounting function and their projects. The Tax Accountant is considered the subject matter expert and is primarily responsible for analyzing financial tax information, providing tax strategy and counsel, and prepare tax related financial reports. This role will handle tax preparation, tax planning and compliance. The Tax Accountant will handle federal, state, and local payroll tax returns, tax account provisioning and tax research projects, including working closely with our finance functions and external advisers. This is a full-time position and reports to Senior Accountant II.

Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Ownership for accurate and timely prepared consolidated federal, state, and local payroll tax returns, extensions, payments/estimates/forecasts and supporting documentation across our US business.
  2. Respond to federal, state, and local tax notices and managing federal, state, and local tax audits and examinations.
  3. Performing tax research, consulting, and other tax projects to support our business.
  4. Support systems and process improvement projects to gain efficiencies in our tax function.
  5. Keeping up to date with legislative developments and ensuring implications of changes are addressed appropriately.
  6. Prepare annual business license applications, personal property tax returns, multi-state sales/use tax returns, payroll tax deposits and quarterly and annual filings.
  7. Compiles information, completes applications, and oversees renewal requirements for various state licensures.
  8. Prepare monthly and quarterly reconciliations and assist with month-end close procedures.
  9. Assist with year-end accounting processes and prepare W-2 filings.
  10. Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
  11. Develop and document business processes to strengthen and maintain internal controls.
  12. Maintain electronic filing systems.

Position Requirements

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field plus 2 - 4 years of experience in tax accounting, CPA license a strong plus.
  2. Experience in construction or utility industry is a plus.
  3. Strong knowledge of general financial tax accounting and financial reporting.
  4. Skills in the reconciliation of financial accounts.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel skills required).
  6. Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality of financials.
  7. Demonstrated critical thinking to mitigate risk and solve complex problems.
  8. Time management and organization skills required to meet deadlines.
  9. Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
  10. Team player and ability to collaborate with other departments.
  11. Ability to meet a constant stream of deadlines and moves with a sense of urgency.
  12. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  13. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  14. Proven ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  15. Must demonstrate strong ethics, transparent handling of financial matters, and the ability to avoid even the appearance of conflicts of interest.
