Job Description

Duties and Tasks

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate skid steers, mini-excavators, and other small earth-moving equipment on trail construction and maintenance projects
  • Safely haul equipment using pickup trucks and trailers
  • Travel to remote project locations and work 4-day stretches (3 overnight stays), approximately 6-8 hours per day
  • Perform basic daily maintenance, including greasing, fluid checks, and minor repairs
  • Assist with trail construction, erosion control, and clearing brush or debris as needed
  • Load and unload materials and supplies at project sites
  • Follow safety protocols and always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Document work completed, including hours, locations, and equipment used
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members about project progress and equipment needs
  • Respond to on-site challenges and adapt to changing terrain and weather conditions
  • Participate in end-of-season equipment cleaning, maintenance, and storage

Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • May involve walking or standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and performing physically demanding tasks
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and irregular hours, including early mornings and evenings

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two year's experience operating compact equipment such as skid steers, mini-excavators, or similar machines
  • Valid driver's license
  • Identified ability to safely haul a trailer with equipment
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with routine equipment maintenance
  • Comfortable working outdoors in rugged terrain and varying weather conditions
